Our History
Our building has a rich history, originally serving as an abattoir for local farmers and families in the Dawsonville community. In 2015, Joe Green, the owner, fulfilled his vision of restoring the building's original purpose by transforming it into a deer processing facility. Today, we proudly operate as a local meat market and USDA abattoir, dedicated to serving farmers in our area.
We often receive inquiries about the meaning behind our name and the significance of the number 217. Joe, who was raised in a small town outside of Buffalo, NY—a region renowned for its steel industry—chose the name “The Steel Buffalo Butchery” to pay homage to his roots.
The number 217 holds a deeply personal meaning for the Green family. It commemorates the day Joe's first son, Nicholas, was born. We remember Nicholas and honor his memory through his final resting place number, 217, which is a cherished part of our identity.
